All of God’s children

Isis, a Muslim group, beheading, torturing and starving those who will not comply with their strict religious requirements.

The Russian army, invading Ukraine under the guise that it is and always has been Russian territory.

Americans, (you know, that “Christian nation”) refusing refuge to hungry, poor people crossing their southern border because they’re worried that these hungry people will take jobs that the Americans don’t want anyway.

White “GI Joe wannabe” (I’ll bet a year’s salary that they’re 90% Christians and Republicans) cops killing black kids, detaining reporters illegally, and posting YouTube videos bragging how they’ve killed before and will do it again. Another one suggesting a “Muslim with a backpack” might be another method of dealing with protesters.

Pat Robertson telling a single mother that her son is gay because he wasn’t raised with a father.

And millions of people will go to church today to worship the entity that ostensibly created all this, because after all, he loves us…

Yay God!

Waterboarding is not torture! Of course not!, Wait, what now?

Isis, our enemy du jour, has announced that they will be waterboarding their captives in the future.

This is the group that captured American journalist James Foley and subsequently beheaded him. They claim to have waterboarded him as well, and cited the US as the country that was instrumental in convincing them to try it.

A foreign terrorist group using techniques that we perfected and defended as not constituting torture? I guess that means that we gave them permission. So, apparently, its now OK to waterboard Americans!

Thanks George Bush and Dick Cheney!

Black people demonstrating Open Carry

Hey kids, I just had a thought. You know all those times when gun nuts go around open-carrying their AR-15s, shotguns and other toys for the manliness-disabled? You know, they walk into Target, McDonalds and other relatively peaceful places, openly displaying their weaponry because, you know, they can?

I can’t help but wonder how it would come off if a group of black people started doing the same thing. I’m talking about law-abiding black people demonstrating their legal, licensed constitutionally guaranteed right to openly carry their lethal firearms, in the presence of children, mothers and other innocent citizens.

At night.
In white neighborhoods.
Or around white cops.
Maybe like in Ferguson, Mo.
While wearing hoodies!

I wonder how long it would take until the cops, National Guard, FBI and the freakin’ Marines were called to suppress this apparent insurrection. Hell, even Cliven Bundy’s buddies would probably show up.

I mean, you know, because blacks and guns, well…

Just spitballin’ here…

Anti-intellectualism and men who wear Spandex.

What better way is there to avoid the burden of thought, the demands of rationality and the challenge of rectitude?

When those of us for whom veracity and truth require too much work, thought and time away from watching professional sports to be of value, we simply replace those efforts with an all-encompassing word or phrase. This not only allows us to identify with those others of the synaptically challenged who need these intellectual shortcuts, but it makes us sound relevant, informed and, I guess, hip. Most of these words, when reduced to their essence, are simply euphemisms for Evil and Good.

Words like Hero, Patriot and Ally tacitly identify those being spoken of as those who do that with which we agree. Yet, Evil, Terrorist and Enemy tend to tacitly identify those with whom we must contend, correct, re-educate, imprison, or kill. You know, those other guys.

Evil is a convenient way to identify those who harm and kill those with whom we agree, yet Good is an antonym, or a way of identifying those who do the same to those with whom we do not. When someone we like kills someone we don’t, that killer is often identified as good, whereas when those who have been killed by our guy return the favor, they are called Evil. Yet the things they’ve done are exactly equal.

Few would defend a black kid killing a white (or any color) cop. Obversely, we have Ferguson, Missouri, where a white cop killed a black kid and where over $300,000 has been raised to defend the cop, yet the memorial fund for Michael Brown currently totals about $130,000. Good and Evil. White cop, black kid. Except for the fact that the only thing we can be certain about in this case is that THE KID IS DEAD.

Barack Obama has been called a terrorist (Evil), yet Ted Nugent, Cliven Bundy and Phil Robertson have been called Patriots (Good). If I need to explain that irony, I, ah, err, well, you got me beat on that one.

Saddam Hussein was called a terrorist by many who enjoyed repeating the word and by some who likely couldn’t spell it, but he wasn’t. He may have been a dictator, murderer and all-around bad guy, but anyone who understands what the word terrorist actually means realizes the difference. To all the others it was simple. Since terrorists are bad, everyone who we think is bad is a…terrorist. See? Saddam Hussein and Barack Obama-terrorists! Simple!

There are even good (Christian) and evil (Islam) religions, depending on whom you ask. Even within the same belief system, there are good (Baptists) and bad (Catholics, if you ask many Baptists). Within Islam, Sunni and Shia will debate, or behead, those who are of the other camp. You know, the good guys versus the bad guys.

The Minuteman Project refer to themselves as Patriots because they claim to “close holes that allow illegal entry of drugs and people into the US”. Notice how they toss in the word “drugs” to legitimize themselves, even though they do absolutely no drug interdiction, since drug smuggling is way too sophisticated and too large in scope to be done in small quantities by kids walking across the desert. What they actually do is keep poor, hungry people from entering the country, to keep them from taking all the lawn maintenance, kitchen staff and child-care jobs that us white folk are just clamoring for. They are protecting us from all those evil Mexicans who have propagated terrorist attacks upon us, you know like when…well, I can’t think of any right now either.

Basically, this group, like those who showed up at Clive Bundy’s ranch, are just a bunch of Tea Party apologist gun owners who are disappointed that Obama’s re-election never caused the violent people’s uprising and revolution they were so confidently and longingly predicting, and since they spent the food money on all these extra guns, bullets and desert camo formal wear, they need to show their friends and wives that they are not the mouth-breathing, violence-loving imbeciles that they appear to be. They need to find a reason, any reason, for being armed to the teeth and fully strapped when they go to the Piggly Wiggly to buy Pampers. But I digress…

Yup, its easier to label someone with that which comports with your poorly-thought-out, black and white, good and evil, anti-education, good-ole-boy view of the world than it is to actually spend a minute or two thinking about it. Just like sports. There’s always an easily-identified good guy and bad guy; the good guy, of course, being the team that you, for some arcane and simplistic reason, support. The colors, the mascots, the team symbols and other shiny objects all being those which make you feel at home.

There is actually a book written by Tim Green called Football Hero about a kid who wants to be a professional football player. Curious word, Hero. Al Qaeda used it to describe those who brought down the World Trade Center on 9/11. We use the Exact. Same. Word. to describe our 9/11 first responders.

And, apparently, people who strive to get into the NFL.

Interesting irony, that. Makes one wonder if anyone will actually do the math and reconsider their use of these simplistic words.

Nah. Who the fuck am I kidding…

Still deciding on Ferguson, but this is quite startling

I’m still deciding who is right or wrong in Ferguson, Mo. But I heard someone comparing to the Cliven Bundy case, where a white millionaire racist, who’s son was a fugitive from the law, refused to pay over $1 million to US taxpayers for his use of our land.

His mouth-breathing, 3rd-grade reading level, squirrel-eating, cousin-f*cking, mullet-wearing, meth addict buddies actually pointed their guns at federal officials, yet none, NOT ONE, was arrested. Oh, and by the way, turns out that every damned one of them was…wait for it…a white guy.

Then, we have Ferguson, Mo, where those of a slightly different color have been protesting what may or may not be a case of police brutality. They themselves, however, are not armed, not threatening to attack police if they don’t get their way, and are not generally…wait for it…white guys.

If you’ll notice one other thing, in the Bundy episode, you’ve got citizens (word used loosely) pointing guns at federal agents, because they don’t like the way the government is taking away their freedoms. Yet in the Ferguson crisis, the cops are pointing their guns at the citizens, yet I’ve yet to hear the outcry from conservatives about these people having their freedoms taken away by a government out of control.

So, white guys get to point guns at federal agents and at black guys, and none of them get arrested. Black guys not only can’t point guns, they can’t even yell really loud, without getting arrested.

More to come…

Here’s what your “job creators” are doing with all the money they got from the congress in the form of corporate tax cuts

Remember Mitt Romney and his ilk, during the last election, screaming against any tax increases for the wealthy? Remember their imbecilic claims that giving millionaires tax cuts would increase employment because these “job creators” could invest in new plants and hire new people? Remember the Repubs, once again playing as if they understood economics, claiming that millionaires can’t wait to hire new people with all that tax money the congress allowed them to keep rather than pay to the government?

Well, as part of installment #2 of how Repubs are continually, perpetually wrong every time they claim to understand economics, Money Magazine published a piece a year or so ago which is holding true today. These “job creators” aren’t creating jobs…they’re using the money you gave them to buy back their own stocks, driving the price of them through the roof.

That’s right. They are taking stocks that should be floating on the market and locking them up, causing a shortage of those stocks and driving the price up. This benefits, not workers, not the unemployed, not the middle class, but only those who are wealthy enough to own stock in these companies.

Here is the article

You can’t make this stuff up folks. This was the second bit of ignorance that came out the the Repub cluster-fu*k in 2012, along with their predictions of hyper-inflation and drastic dollar devaluation. Where is it? And where are the jobs that these creators created from all the taxes they’ve saved?

You can love or hate Barack Obama, but can you imagine where we’d be financially if these ignoramuses had taken the White House? Or if they do in 2016?

These people make predictions and low-intelligence pronouncements (like balancing the federal budget is similar to a household balancing its checkbook) and Repubs buy it, hook, line and sinker. But they conveniently forget to check back years later when none, and I mean none, of their predictions come true. Their lack of long-term memory is what keeps them thinking that they’re right, when they are almost invariably wrong. Time and time again.

More to come…

Don’t Confuse Agreement with Truth

Yes, I too have been watching the events unfolding in Ferguson, Mo. Yes, I too came to some rapidly-formed conclusions almost immediately. And yes, I too am seeing things that disturb me from both sides of this saga.

But don’t make the mistake of closing your mind once you hear that which comports with your pre-determined notions of either black kids or white cops. There are lots of occasions where white cops have done things that are racist, bigoted or the result of unfair profiling.

And there are lots of occasions where 18-year-olds, whether black or white, have approached cops in a threatening manner, thinking that there won’t be any consequences for having done so.

This story has a few more chapters to be written before we can close the book. Those who act as if they know what happened, are just setting themselves up to look foolish.
